Every industry has its regulations. Construction of single family dwellings must meet the 2012 International Residence Code (IRC) and 2015 IRC that regulate the fire protection of single family homes that do not use sprinklers or gypsum board. This code covers the “Fire Protection of Floors”.

LP (Louisiana Pacific) Building Products offers a cost-effective LSL (Laminated Strand Lumber) solution for builders faced with meeting this requirement. LP® LSL meets these 2012 and 2015 requirements. It is backed by Louisiana Pacific’s technical and engineering support team. There has been proven performance in the field with this product.

This product, while meeting these newer standards, still consistently provides the level of performance builders and homeowners have come to expect from Louisiana Pacific.

These are the product specifications of LP® LSL:

Some of the LP® LSL advantages are that it is dimensional & stable. This translates into the lumber being straighter and simpler to install. It is also durable and fits commonly available joist hangers. Its durability allows it to stand up to normal job site conditions. There are designated areas in the lumber to cut 2” holes or less. When laying floors, the L/480 is recommended, as it is 1/3 stiffer than the code. Deeper depths of this product are more readily available as compared to traditional lumber.

“By utilizing LP LSL for joist in our floor systems we not only meet the criteria for the 2012 fire code but also believe we are providing our customers with a firmer feeling floor system.” Eric Hibner, Director of Purchasing MI Homes- Columbus Ohio
